There are many different types of music in the world today. Why do we need music? Is the traditional music of a country more important than the International music that is heard everywhere nowadays?
Answer :
Music has developed over generations from a domestic to an international level. One of the central role of music during this period is the role of unity. In this way, we can interpret that the global presence of music represents our endeavors to become united beyond domestic level while traditional music plays its own role.
To elaborate the need of music in our society, it has been a core of social unity. Society must build the shared belief and common emotions among social members to make society to be sustained. To achieve this goal, almost all societies have used music. Through making and singing music that embeds social values in it, the members of society have strengthened their connections. Even in the battlefield which is the sphere of conflict between difference societies, there was the music for the unity of army.
With regard to the priority between traditional and international music in the era of globalism, we can say that both types of music are playing an important role. For domestic scope, it helps to maintain social identity among citizens in the globalized world. Society with clear identity can embrace other cultures in the world and contribute to international societies with strong grounds.
After music forms domestic cohesion for the first phase of globalization, it actually glues the departed world into one. For instance, by enjoying same international music, people can understand and share feelings each other to change dots into line. In this way, music fulfils its social role in present day.
To conclude, music plays an important social role as a connecting point between members of society. Thus, this important role can be applied to both domestic and international level.
