Answer :
Some people say that the most important environmental problem is the loss of particular species. However, there is a more persuasive argument that other environmental problems such as climate changes are more important.
On the one hand, these days, more and more plants and animals are driven to extinction and this is the reason why some people think that the loss of particular species is the main environmental problem. Although extinction of a particular specie of plants may seem insignificant, it can effect the environment greatly because an animal specie that consumes that particular plant may also be driven to extinction, and then the same thing can happen with its predators. This shows that the loss of particular species of any plants or animals effects the food chain and it can cause serious damage to the environment. Also, the increasing number of extinct species can draw people’s attention and make them worry more about the environment.
On the other hand, it is also undeniable that there are more important environmental problems because climate changes such as rising sea-level or global-warming can effect human lives more directly. Such climate issues are also considerably being worsened and one can feel that in one’s daily lives. For example, people in Maldives are worried that their land is predicted to be under water by the year of 2030 due to rising sea-level. Experts urge the government to make plans for their people to move out of the islands of Maldives as soon as possible. This illustrates how environmental problems concerning climate changes can serious harm human lives and why we should pay more attention to these issues.
In conclusion, it is reasonable for some people to think that extinction of particular species of plants and animals is the most important environmental issue. However, I personally believe that there are more urgent problems such as global warming and climate changes because these can not only damage the environment but more importantly, cause direct problems to human lives.
