' It is an increasing trend of business to neglect the environment to further their profits.' issue

Topic :
It is an increasing trend of business to neglect the environment to further their profits.
What problems can this cause?
What measures could resolve them?

Answer :

It is clear that, to have a successful business, people should put aside the problems of environment to some degree. However, I think, as more companies take environmental issues less seriously, they are damaging our society both directly and indirectly. Since the consequences can be devastating, I suggest we should handle this problem with help from government.

It is obvious that the trend of not caring for environmental problems when running a business is directly going to harm our nature. In case of factories, they might throw away polluted substances illegally, or leak filthy fluid they used for manufacturing process into a river or the ocean, regardless of the damage it is going to cause. Other businesses like, shops or restaurants will not consider ways not to use plastic bags or other products that cannot be recycled. Furthermore, when this becomes a kind of ‘trend’ that people follow, more and more people will neglect environmental issues. People who are trying to start a business will follow the precedent of making a lot of waste, and consumers will not appreciate the value of eco-friendly corporations.

The results of these ignorant behaviors can be far more serious, in a long term perspective. Therefore I insist that government should take action about this problem. There needs to be a high standard of rules to start a business at all, and the government should pick the companies who put extra effort to keep our nature clean and safe, and praise them. A type of subsidy and a guarantee mark can be given, so the companies do not have to be so insecure about the profits, and consumers can easily recognize those who passed the high standard of the government.

To sum up, I think the businesses being irresponsible for environmental problems they cause should be regulated because it affects the environment itself and people in a negative way. To solve this problem, the government should set a strict rule to protect the environment from evil companies
