IELTS/Task 2

' Many people are choosing to find information online rather than in books. ' issue

Topic :

Many people are choosing to find information online rather than in books. Is this development positive or negative?

Answer :

Nowadays the importance of information resources is increasing, and the Internet makes access to information easy. I believe that this development has possibilities to improve life. In this essay, I will discuss reasons for this.

Books can help search information, but they are not as effective as the Internet. As publishing paper books take time, they often contain outdated contents. It is not practical to apply them to real time situations. Even though the contents are practical, terminologies are sometimes too difficult for non experts to understand. Books are published for target readers to increase its sales, and if readers are not experts in targeted fields, they cannot use tips in the books to improve their situations.

In contrast, the Internet targets broad users. Anyone can access anything they want to read. What they read is not difficult because the Internet provides simplified contents to encourage them to share it with many different people. This development helps address inequity in information access. Especially in a used car market, sellers and buyers had different level of background information, and this always disadvantaged buyers. However, this is no longer a problem since an online community is formed and publishes information for them.

In conclusion, people online can have more chances to find useful information. What is on the Internet changes its own form to reach more people, while books are targeting and waiting for readers.
