Answer :
People have different views about which method is more useful to communicate between speaking and writing. Some people argue that face to face meeting is more effective to deliver information, while other say that texts are better for that. However, I believe that both these viewpoints are worth considering in depth since they have their own benefits and usage of each method is distinguished according to situations.
First of all, it is true that spoken communication is the most common method to deliver information. Many people tend to converse with others before they write it as a document because talking is convenient and commonplace in people’s lives. For instance, speaking plays an important role when people tell their personal or secret stories to others. In addition, speaking is a powerful method to convey information in an emergency circumstance because it is faster than other communication skills. Meanwhile, people can develop a faith and create a relationship by looking each other’s eyes or sharing a similar emotion during face to face meeting.
On the other hand, writing can enable people to deliver messages in a logical and systematic way. This is because information can be transferred without any distortion and makes people to find a faulty easily. This is the reason why people write a document during contract negotiations. Furthermore, texts are suitable to deliver complex and long-winded stories which are hard to convey by speaking and it is proper to preserve messages for long time or inform to the public at once.
In conclusion, both methods used to communicate have their own characteristics. When people want to deliver messages promptly or with emotion, speaking is more preferable. However, people who need to give concrete information without distortion should select writing to communicate with others. Therefore, I believe that people need to choose the communication method depending on situations they encountered.
