It is a common belief that tax revenues should be spent on public libraries rather than on public transportation. However, I firmly believe that governments should fund transportation systems instead because they are essential to the public and have an influence on economy.

 

First of all, public transportation is essential for many people, but libraries are only necessary for a few people. Buses and subways are a necessary means of transportation for people who cannot drive, for example, the elderly, the disabled, and those who cannot afford to buy a car. On the other hand, libraries are becoming obsolete. With the development of the Internet, almost all information can be found online, and most people use the Internet. Therefore, library usage is decreasing. Meanwhile, most citizens, including those who have their own cars, use public transportation almost every day and week, which makes investing in public transportation much more beneficial to society as a whole. In particular, it will improve the lives of people who do not own their own cars.

 

Furthermore, improving public transportation can have an important positive impact on the national economy. An efficient public transportation system is essential for commerce and industry, as it allows people to move to work more quickly. This allows many people to get jobs in various areas, not just in big cities. Also, the expansion of the transportation system can further expand the city, promote the tourism industry or promote local commerce through the expanded transportation system. For example, the Republic of Korea recently introduced a new subway line from Seoul to Wonju, which not only boosted the economy but also created various industries and created new jobs in the region.

To sum up, the public transportation system is more used by citizens and has a greater impact on economic prosperity than libraries. For this reason, the government should invest more in public transportation.
