'Major Environmental Problems' discussion

Topic :  Some people say that the main environmental problem of our time is the loss of particular species of plants and animals. Others say that there are more important environmental problems. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion

As the industrialization over the world has been intensified, it has caused a variety of environmental problems. Some people deem that among these problems, the extinction of some creatures is the most serious issue, however others contend that people have to handle other problems first more than the extinction problem. This essay will articulate both arguments and suggest my own opinion.

 

First of all, as for people who consider that the disappearance of animals and plants is the most serious problem, they think that humans are responsible for the loss of creatures in the wild. The plants and animals have been extinct because of humans’ greed for development. They tend to regard the diversity of plants and animals as high priority of environmental policies. Without people’s intervention, the wild animals or plants could have more diverse species than now. 

 

However, others think that there are more serious environmental problems which are directly connected to humans’ life. For example, due to global warming the sea level is rising rapidly every year. Because of this phenomenon a country like Maldives is facing the loss of its nation. The width of the land in the country is getting reduced. People in the Maldives had no choice but to leave their hometown and they have to adapt to new environments. Therefore they insist that the government should care about the humans’ live first, not those of other plants or animals.

 

In my opinion, I support the idea that people should preserve the diversity of animals and plants. However, the problem related to humans’ life should be solved at first. It seems that people are able to deal with these issues at the same time. While people try to make an effort to prevent wild animals and plants from being extinct, others could focus on solving problems which are associated with people’s life.
