' Media focuses on problems and emergencies rather than positive developments ' issue

Topic :

Nowadays, there is a trend that the media focuses on problems and emergencies rather than positive developments. Some people think it is harmful to individuals and to society. To what extent do you agree?

Answer :

Today, sources of information vary, and so do those of news. In this regard, it is often argued that negatives from media can be harmful to their viewers. However, I disagree with this statement. In this essay, I will discuss reasons for this.

Showing negative sides of the world is actually what media has to do. They warn individuals what happens around them and increase the overall awareness in the general public. This system makes sure that there is no one who gets behind and saves more people from the existing danger. The media delivers bad news not because they want to threat that anyone can be a victim of murder but because they need to say that everyone can be the same vulnerable person in a certain situation.

If streams of unhappy stories are a problem, individuals can simply turn them off. Even experienced journalists limit screen time and exposure to them. This is because writing their own articles is already stressful and watching more can worsen their mental health. They do not turn on anything especially during the night when their mood swings the most and set aside mental space to use in case of real emergency. If they do so to protect their ordinary life, normal people should also do the same, but more strictly.

In conclusion, focusing on negatives can be the role of media to make the society a less dangerous place to live. It does not harm anything as long as individuals themselves keep an eye on it and control its consequences.
