' Government should sometimes infringe on people`s freedom for the security of society ' issue

Topic :

Government should sometimes infringe on people`s freedom for the security of society. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Answer :

If the freedom of some people could seriously damage the safety of the majority of others, it might be necessary to allow the government to infringe on the freedom of people. The Corona outbreak could be a good example. Our government enacted a social distance campaign in the early stage of the Corona crisis to stop spreading the virus. But, a few people ignored it and gathered together to have a religious event. In this religious event, the worshipers sat very closely, but unfortunately, one of them had already contracted the virus, so many of the other people participating in the event also got infected. Since the Coronavirus was highly contagious, it spread quickly, so the entire country had no option but to almost lockdown to stop it.

Nevertheless, when the government tries to infringe on the freedom of people, the government should be prudent. The owner of the nation is citizens, not the government; the right of freedom is the fundamental value of modern society, which is guaranteed explicitly under the constitution. Considering the past dictatorships, the government abused their authority frequently to violate the freedom of people, even though the dictator always said that it is inevitable for social security.

Therefore, the government has to communicate fully with people in the nation and acquire social agreement from them when the government judges that violation of freedom is inevitably needed to protect the nation.
