IELTS/Task 2

' Governments should spend tax money on public libraries rather then public transportation improvements. ' issue

Topic :

Governments should spend tax money on public libraries rather then public transportation improvements. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Answer :

It is a common belief that the government should prioritize investing tax revenue on running the public libraries over improving the public transportation services. However, I firmly believe that tax money should be spent more on the transportation, not on the libraries, because it is beneficial for much more people and should be the priority.

To begin with, there are a lot more people using the public transportation for commuting or just traveling than who spending their time in the public libraries. Studying in libraries could be replaced by studying in other places such as home or a cafe, however, there is no other ways that could displace the public transportations when it comes to the cases of people who do not have their own vehicles. To take an example with this, if governments spend much more tax money on maintenance of the free libraries for public uses rather than the transportation despite more needs for it, those many people would suffer from various issues in the public transportation which are being ignored by governments.

Moreover, there are enough dissatisfactory comments which have been reported from public transportation users these days. There is an evident need of governments to pay attention to those negative opinions from citizens, rather than concentrating unnecessarily more on having public libraries. In fact, there have been many people appealing their inconvenience in public transportation services, particularly for trains, in the UK. Because of the terrible sanitary conditions and services that have not been provided well, the necessity of the government expanding its investment on managing the public transport systems, with less expenditure on present constructing redundant libraries, is being emphasized.

To conclude, with these reasons, the heavy tax expense on maintaining libraries rather than transportation services is completely unacceptable. If governments really want to improve the life quality of the public, they should first consider about using their tax revenue for upgrading the public transportations such as subways and buses.
